See the sizes and models behind a retail total
For a surf, bike or clothing shop, a department total may answer one question while hiding another. You may have plenty of stock overall but be short of particular sizes, models or accessories. Bring that question to the planning conversation: department totals suit financial inventory, while itemized quantities can support a closer look at the product mix.
If you also rent equipment or keep demonstration stock, identify it separately. A board available for rent and a new board on the sales rack should not automatically enter the same merchandise total.
Count a food business beyond unopened cases
A Westside tasting room, cafe or restaurant may need to account for bottles behind the bar, packaged products for sale and ingredients in storage. List those groups before the count and discuss the units you use: bottles, portions of open bottles, cases or ingredient quantities. Consistent units make the result easier to compare with purchasing records.
For an ownership change, also identify glassware, furniture and equipment that should appear in an asset record. Keep merchandise and operating assets distinct so buyer and seller can review each part of the handover.
Questions about your Santa Cruz count

List what leaves the shop, where it will be on the count date and when it returns. We can discuss counting it at an agreed location or identifying it separately in your records. Unsold goods returning from an event should not be mistaken for a new delivery.
Can we review stock before changing our seasonal assortment?
Yes. Tell us which departments or products you want to review before ordering or rearranging displays. A partial or full count can establish quantities on hand; your team can then compare those quantities with sales and decide what to replenish, retain or clear.
