Use the academic calendar as a comparison point when it fits your trade
For a Merced retailer whose demand changes around the university calendar, a count before a major replenishment order can answer a specific question: what remains from the last buying period? Keep current merchandise distinguishable from older promotional stock, returns and supplies you use internally. That lets you discuss the count in terms of what you can sell next.
When comparing two inventories, note where each date falls in your own trading year. A count after a quieter period and one after a large delivery describe different stock positions, even when both are accurate.
Separate the contents of a downtown space from its opening stock
If you are buying or moving into a Merced shop or food business, start with a walk-through of the items changing hands.
