From Mission Boulevard to the industrial corridor
Hayward’s land-use plan identifies the Mission Boulevard corridor and downtown alongside an industrial corridor in the west and southwest, including warehousing, distribution and food manufacturing. That range calls for more than a single count format. A neighborhood store, service business or industrial stockroom can each need a different level of detail, and we start with the question your inventory needs to answer.

Make the unit on the box unambiguous
A case, an inner pack and an individual item are three different quantities. Show us packaging where one supplier’s case contains a different number from another’s. If a Hayward warehouse also supplies a retail counter, flag opened cases and loose units before the count. A short pack-size reference helps connect the physical merchandise with your item list without assuming every sealed-looking box is full.
Give food stock and supplies their own places
For a food business, walk through dry storage, refrigeration, freezers and ingredients already moved into preparation areas. Packaging, cleaning supplies and items held for disposal may sit nearby but need different treatment. We can discuss including the supplies you want counted and identifying those groups separately. Sharing the way you measure an opened container also helps us plan a consistent approach across the kitchen and storage rooms.
Questions about your Hayward count
Do I need to open every carton before you arrive?
No blanket rule fits every stockroom. Tell us how cartons are sealed, labeled and reused, and show an example of partial cases. We will discuss a count approach appropriate to the contents and access.
Our receiving area is also our dispatch area. How should we prepare?
Mark incoming, outgoing and returned goods as distinct groups and identify their status in your records. Give the count lead a contact who can resolve a shipment that changes status while the count is underway.
PIA has counted business inventory since 1983. Our founder oversees operations and personally trains our auditors.
