Old Town character, everyday business needs

Old Town Clovis brings antique and gift shops together with cafés and restaurants, according to its merchant organization. Sidewalk sales and other events are part of that setting. If your merchandise includes individual finds as well as packaged goods, the preparation should explain how each is identified; one barcode routine may not tell the whole story.

Keep individual pieces identifiable

For a shop with one-of-a-kind merchandise, start with the labels or stock numbers you already use. Set apart goods held for a customer and identify any consignment pieces so ownership is clear. We can discuss the detail your count needs. A distinctive cabinet offered for sale and a cabinet used to display stock should not become the same kind of inventory simply because they share the sales floor.

Bring the whole selling space into the count

An Old Town storefront may use a window, patio or temporary display as well as its main room. Make those selling areas part of the walkthrough, together with cartons waiting to be unpacked. For a café or liquor shop, include the service stock behind the counter. If a sale or event changes your normal setup, tell us which goods are moving out and which will return before the count is finished.

Questions about your Clovis count

Can you count merchandise without manufacturer barcodes?

Yes. Tell us whether you use handwritten prices, your own stock numbers or another identification system. We can discuss financial, itemized or combined methods appropriate to those goods.

Should a display piece be included when I sell my shop?

That depends on what the buyer and seller include in the transaction. Identify merchandise, display fixtures and any personally owned pieces separately so the count follows the agreed scope.
